History
Chilford Hall is set in 40 acres of rolling countryside and has been in the Alper family since the 1960s. Bought by Sam Alper as a family home, an ambitious building and restoration programme has transformed it into one of East Anglias leading conference and banqueting centres. Although Sam has now retired, Chilford Hall remains very much a family business with his son Simon the Managing Director and daughter Rebecca the Commercial Director.
Since its purchase, Chilford Hall has benefitted from many improvements. The Great Hall is a Grade II listed building which dates from 1820, has been tastefully refurbished and is lined with a collection of age-old agricultural artefacts. The Gallery, was added in 1971, and in 1997 major alterations were made to the Pavilion which now boasts subtle lighting, elegant dcor and 7,500 square feet (696 sq. metres) of uninterrupted space making it the largest dedicated exhibition area in East Anglia.

Vineyard & Winery
Chilford Hall is home to the largest vineyard in East Anglia and is one of the regions most respected wine producers, earning numerous awards. The first vines were planted in 1972 and the current 18 acres are trained in a wide-row spaced and tall trellised system, which allows a larger leaf area, thus providing a greater ability to catch the sunlight and intensify the sweetness of the grapes.
The vineyard is situated on a gently-sloping, south-west facing hillside which means the vines enjoy the maximum sunshine during the summer months and are protected from cold north and easterly winds in the winter. Mueller-Thurgau, Ortega, Huxelrebe, Reichensteiner, Schoenburger, Dornfelder and Siegerrebe vines are grown for their intense flavours and early ripening that allows picking in October.

The Linton Hall dates back to the 18th century and boast many attractive timber features. The smallest room at Chilford Hall, it has its own separate access making it ideal for all types of smaller gatherings.
